Privacy Policy

Open Season (“the app,” “we,” “us”) helps hunters track U.S. hunting season dates, tag and permit application windows, and regulations. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible.

Information we collect

When you create an account and use the app, we store:

Account details: your email address (for sign-in) and, optionally, a display name you enter to personalize your greeting. Authentication is handled by our backend provider; we do not store your password in plain text.
Your selections: the states and species you follow, and your alert preferences (how far ahead you want reminders).
Device push token: if you enable notifications, an anonymous token so we can deliver season and deadline reminders to your device.
Application tracker entries (only what you choose to enter): a title, the state and species, the application/portal link, a portal username, application and result dates, fees, preference points, and your own notes.

We never ask for or store passwords to third-party licensing portals. The tracker deliberately captures a username and link only — keep the password in your phone’s password manager.

We do not collect your location, and we do not use advertising or third-party tracking or analytics SDKs.

How we use it

To show you the seasons, deadlines, and regulations for what you follow.
To send the reminder notifications you opt into.
To keep your tracker and settings in sync on your account.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Service providers

Supabase hosts our database, authentication, and backend functions.
Expo delivers push notifications to your device.

Season and regulation content is compiled from public state wildlife-agency documents using automated tooling; that process operates on public documents, not on your personal data.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete account in the app. Deletion is immediate and irreversible, and removes your profile, follows, alert settings, tracked applications, and device tokens.

Children

Open Season is intended for a general audience of adult hunters and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Hunting information disclaimer

Season dates and regulations shown in the app are informational only and may contain errors or become outdated. Always confirm dates and rules with the official state wildlife agency before hunting or applying for a tag.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by a new effective date above.
